A newcomer to the summer festival calendar, THE DEER SHED FESTIVAL is a family-friendly event that offers one day and night of the best in contemporary music, art and comedy, whilst providing a full schedule of activities for even the youngest festival-goer, with the philosophy rightly being that they should get just as much out of it as their parents do.
For the music fan there are the legendary headliners, THE WEDDING PRESENT, performing one of the earliest UK performances of their seminal Bizarro album; Mercury Prize nominees THE YOUNG KNIVES; the hugely acclaimed LONE WOLF; MILES HUNT and ERICA NOCKALLS performing countless WONDER STUFF classics; the incredible and alluring BLUE ROSES; and current NME darlings YOUNG REBEL SET. Augmenting such a brilliant, eclectic line-up are the epic, atmospheric BLACK DIAMOND BAY; the uniquely spirited DANNY & THE CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD; the infectious Americana of GROANBOX; the authentic blues of DELTA MAID; the multi-award winning JUSTIN ADAMS AND JULDEH CAMARA; the homegrown folk and bluegrass brilliance of SERIOUS SAM BARRET; and the impossibly young PAUL THOMAS SAUNDERS fashioning his own personal Leonard Cohen-inspired genius.
But these fine acts are just one facet of what promises to be an incredible festival. Children will be entertained and inspired by music workshops; circus skill workshops; badge making facilities; junk modeling; the poetry of PAUL COOKSON; professional illustrators; and the story-telling of ANDREW CLOVER. If this isn’t enough to keep the cherubs out of mischief, how about a Deer Treasure Hunt, swing balls, mosaic workshops, clay modeling, willow weaving, the invitation to join the family choir and, of course, the ubiquitous face painting?
With Gothic Morris Dancers, Yoga, comedians DANNY DEEGAN and BEN LAWES, and a host of artists, including CULPRIT ART, CHEEKY BEEF, WENDY GREENWOOD and the astonishing THE COMPULSIVE SCRIBBLER, all creating their masterpieces and inspiring and encouraging budding artists along the way, THE DEER SHED FESTIVAL truly is a remarkable line-up.
Set in the beautiful North Yorkshire parkland of Baldersby Park, the festival site is within easy access via road and rail and enveloped by the stunning Yorkshire backdrop. The food and drink will all be fresh, locally produced and very reasonably priced, and that the sanitary facilities will be eco-friendly and exactly what is required with several little ones in tow.
As festival organizer Oliver Webster-Jones explains’ “We’ve had to work very hard at the festival line-up. We have always wanted a stress-free family festival which didn’t compromise on the music. Ultimately we got fed up with spending a small fortune getting us all into other festivals and either being disappointed in the bands or the facilities and food for the kids. The Deer Shed Festival is our long considered response”.
