Aidan Moffat+ Martin Heslop & Claude Werner, Morden Tower, Saturday 5th February 2011

Location

A one-off show at the world famous (and tiny) Morden Tower in the old City Walls of Newcastle. Shipyard Sessions  presents AIDAN MOFFAT+ MARTIN HESLOP & CLAUDE WERNER

Aidan Moffat steps across the border to the city walls of Newcastle to bring you a night of poetry, song and thoughts steeped in the darkest wit and the driest humour. In this one-off show he brings his unique take on the deconstruction of the human condition to the intimate settings of Morden Tower to add his name to the great poets that have performed there in the past.

Whether he’s Aidan Moffat, ex-frontman of Arab Strap or L. Pierre, architect of ambient soundscapes, the man from Falkirk seems to excel in whatever musical or literary projects he turns his hand to. He has always been recognised for his remarkable way with a candid (and often lurid) lyric and with the release of his solo albums he has shown just what a gifted and observant writer he is.

Aidan John Moffat has a voice all of his own – the fact that what he says might make you blush makes it all the more insightful…

Playing as a duo for the first time, support comes from Martin Heslop and Claude Werner. This gig will bring together Martin’s dark stories and haunted melodies and Claude’s improvising, harmonising double bass. Influenced by the words and noises from Woody Guthrie to Kurt Weill, bebop to free jazz, they come from different ends of the chromatic scale to meet at the city walls.
