Firstly, before you read about Vinyl Jacket and their fab new single on the Calico label please click onto The Northern Line Radio Player and have a listen to the tune in question. “Painting Stations” by Vinyl Jacket is a heady mix of The Futureheads, Vampire Weekend & Talking Heads. But don’t take our word for it give it a listen as you read all about them……………………………………………………………………………….

VINYL JACKET: THE BAND

Vinyl Jacket are a young five piece that hail from the small village of Wylam in Northumberland, removed from any influence of a ‘scene’ the band developed their own sound and created their unique brand of ‘Diesel-Pop’ that has made them stand out in the current musical climate with each meticulously crafted song sounding like its own mini festival.

Having only formed in January 2010 Vinyl Jacket have toured the UK and supported the likes of Hockey, General Fiasco and The Holloways. Their self titled EP released in June this year gained them airplay on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Newcastle, BBC Tees & Amazing Radio, a feature in Newcastle’s Culture Magazine and has seen them develop an ever growing fan base.

The band performed at a showcase event in front of Tom Robinson who picked them as his standout band stating that Vinyl Jacket ‘blew him away’ proclaiming them to be ‘world class!’ This led to further airplay on 6Music and the band headlining the BBC Introducing Stage at In the City 2010. Their track Broken Record topped the AR Chart in December after a successful viral video got fans voting for the song that also topped the Best of Myspace chart. The band we’re also PRS Artist of the Week for the first week of 2011 and featured on the Radio 1 BBC Introducing week on the Chris Moyles Breakfast Show.

Vinyl Jacket release their debut single Painting Stations 21st February 2011 through The Calico Print with plans to tour the UK with their arsenal of intelligent, intricate and complex Indie-Pop songs. The single has already received airplay from Chris Moyles, Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson.

‘We defy you not to start dancing around with impromptu fruit – based earrings hanging from your ears to this tropicalia smasher.’ Best of Myspace (Number 1 Dec 2010)

‘The world may not have heard of them yet but, take it from me, Vinyl Jacket are a band at the very top of their game. One memorable radio record is all it needs and they’ll be all over the 6 Music playlist like a rash.’
Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music‘Infectious guitar licks and rich, repetitive choruses are ripe for a serious sing along. This is proper music.’
High Voltage

‘Vinyl Jacket have got ideas to burn.’
