The Northernline Goes South Again… Part 2 – A Kentish Tale … Hopfarm Festival 2011 Preview, 1st -3rd July 2011

So as the rain lashes against my window and the thought of hail stones does not seem a distant thought, the northernline makes another occasional dabble down to the green pastures of Southern England. And why not, holiday season is upon us, and having already previewed the mammoth and insanely good line up to Glastonbury this year, another Southern contender has a line up that packs a punch..

Returning again this year in the depths of the Kentish countryside, the sound of ale gurgling Morris Dancers and drunken farmers, is replaced for  3 days at the start of July by some of the finest bands to grace our land. Hopfarm Festival has over the last 3 years put itself on the map. Thanks to Vince Power the brains behind The Hopfarm Festival, (not to mention legendary clubs and festivals such as the Mean Fiddler and Phoenix Festival) the line up  has accrued an eclectic mix of the hottest contemporary bands with the type of legends that simply have god-like status… I’m talking about Magazine, Patti Smith, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, and Morrissey all back to back on the Saturday night…  How about that then? That’s what does it for me anyway ! … It is simply an awesome line up and the event is apparently free of corporate sponsorship and branding.

It’s a varied mix and for a festival of this size an ambitious achievement. Friday sees The Eagles headline, with support from the likes of Brandon Flowers, The Human League and Stornaway. If your still up for it on Sunday then you have the opportunity to see Prince perform .. the first time for years in the UK and thrown into the mix is Tinie Tempah, Eliza Doolittle, Hot chip and the Young Knives.

I’ve attached a picture below from last year’s Wickerman festival in Scotland to get you in the festival mood generally! Oh and before I forget Graham Coxon and Carl Barat also play amongst many others on the Saturday – check the website – tickets selling quick!
