Will you be staggering from Voluptuous Vicky to Fanny’s Bramble?

There are some cracking names to be found in the 100-strong beer and cider list which is currently being added to the Galtres website. As well as Wold Top Brewery’s Voluptuous Vicky ale and Sandford Orchard’s Fanny’s Bramble cider mixed with blackberries, we look forward to enjoying a swift half or two of Gwatkins Squeal Pig Perry, washed down with a pint of Staggering Genius or Supreme Overlord, both named after the not-too-modest Great Heck brewer Denzil Valiance.

And after that there’s Chiffchaff from Marston Moor or Choo-choo! from the new Junction micro-brewery in York. Try ordering one of those after a few too many in the afternoon sunshine.

Another new micro-brewery we’re ordering from is Nun Monkton’s Yorkshire Heart Brewery which will be supplying us with their Hearty Bitter and JTR Best – and can’t wait to try those. Back of course are the favourites from last year’s selection, including Daleside Blonde, Wensleydale’s Black Dub Oat Stout, and Hambleton’s excellent Stud.

We’re going to run the popular Blondes Bar again serving chilled light ales such as the ever-favourite Rudgate Jorvik and Black Sheep’s Golden Sheep. NEW this year is the Lager Bar serving the excellent Mitchell-Krause Czech Pilsner and Bavarian Hefe Weisse – British made of course! And, we hope, a new lager from Cropton on the North York Moors – we’re heading up there to check that out next week (oh what work we have to do!)

And once again we’re going to have a dedicated cider and perry marquee absolutely crammed with the stuff – loads of varieties varieties from Ampleforth Abbey Cider from the edge of the Yorkshire Moors, Moorhouse Cider from East Yorkshire, loads of scrummy Janet’s Jungle Juice, and lots more from Herefordshire and further south. More are being added daily so go to the website for updates www.galtresfestival.org.uk

But of course, enjoy our beer and cider responsibly.

Protect your kids’ ears

We’ve ordered a load of groovy kids’ ear defenders and will be selling them at the festival so you can protect your children’s hearing if they’re near one of the big stages. I’ve already reserved one set for my little boy Henry so I can take him up the front and jump up and down wildly when the Levellers are on. You can reserve yours too to collect at the festival. Six bright colours to choose from.
