• Brand new website now live – check www.themagicloungeabout.net   The Magic Loungeabout returns for its third year with an inspiring programme of music and arts, and has just confirmed its Saturday headliners.
The hugely iconic and influential Inner City, founded by Kevin Saunderson and Paris Grey, have contributed more to the dance floor than any other Detroit act over the last 20 years. Coming together in 1987, they are famed for seminal dance floor bombs Good Life and Big Fun and classics Hallelujah and Pennies from Heaven. One of the world’s most enduring dance acts, pioneers of Detroit house and techno, they take over the main stage on Saturday evening for a riotous party.
Smoove & Turrell are also confirmed to support CHIC. Formed by the infamous Smoove with vocalist John Turrell, their live performances are well known from the north down to Glastonbury. Purveyors of fine funk and soul, they are the perfect accompaniment to disco’s founders!
One of the defining clubs of the dance generation, Leeds’ Back 2 Basics, debuts at The Magic Loungeabout’s Super Club. This is the festival’s late night location for those looking to party to a scintillating soundtrack of house, disco, acid, classics and more from a swathe of legendary DJ names. We will be partying deep into the night with new extended opening hours too.
For those that don’t know, Dave Beer is Back to Basics. Having toured with the likes of Sisters of Mercy and That Petrol Emotion, all things changed in 1988. He caught the acid house bug and when parties were brought back inside after the 1991 criminal justice bill, a club was born to define a generation. 21 years on it shows no signs of slowing, and remains one of the UK’s leading weekly parties. As a DJ he’s played everywhere from Glastonbury to Ibiza, as well as producing and remixed for the likes of David Bowie and Chrissy Hind.
Ex-Hacienda and Renaissance resident Buckley also stars. He’s played alongside live acts Inner City, Ten City and was tour DJ to M People, and at Basics is the original resident of the longest running weekly house night in the world. In a word, this guy is a bit of a legend, with an encyclopedic knowledge of music and how to rock a crowd.
Chris Duckenfield has gone from pirate DJ to record store runner to one of Yorkshire’s finest and most respected DJs, with a record collection that simply defines the history of dance music. Danielle Crazy P and Neil Diablo are hosts for a musical journey through audio delights from Prince to Pulp, Grace Jones to Grand Master Flash-all bases covered. Requests and dedications welcomed and we will endeavor to please everyone’s tastes. There’s also hot club DJ duo PBR Streetgang, and Basics legends Frenchy and Tristan da Cunha also star. And don’t forget Disco Mums, who spin sly gems, treasured classics, disco, soul, funk and house.
And Not Forgetting…
CHIC feat Nile Rodgers, arguably disco’s greatest band, will be headlining Friday for what promises to be the best start to our biggest party yet, and The Charlatans, one of the UK’s defining alternative bands, bring the festival to a climax on Sunday. This summer we are introducing more future stars to you after bringing Ed Sheeran to Skipton in 2011, including Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Lucy Rose, Cashier No 9, Juan Zelada, Jenny O, Let’s Buy Happiness and The Loose Salute.
