Deer Shed Fesival And A Place In The Sun

“We all know the summer means fun…….” (Van Van Van by CUD 1988)

Well the summer certainly does mean fun and the fun starts this week-end. Just when you thought it would never stop raining. Just when you actually started putting your thoughts of an Ark into plans for actually building one. Just when you’d given up hope of any of the festivals actually taking place this summer. Then, then, the sun decides to come out just in time. This week-end sees two festivals that we know are going to be stonkers. One indoors, one outdoors. So it’s pretty good timing that the weather is taking a turn for the better…..

“But the sun it shines here…..” (Sun shines here by HURRAH 1983)

On Friday (20th July) the Deer Shed opens its doors for its third year. And judging by the last two years (it was our festival of the year in 2011) and the line-up, then it looks like being a highlight of our summer. Actually, a highlight of our year!! So who are we going to see? Dutch Uncles, Saint Etienne, Washington Irving, Woodenbox, Beth Houghton and the Hooves of Destiny, Villagers, Treetop Flyers, Human dont be angry (AKA Malcolm Middleton from Arab Strap), Cherry Ghost and our friend from Leeds Mr Sam Airey. And thats just what I want to see, there is loads more. Also loads to do for the kids. It is truly a family festival. I am taking two of my girls (aged 7 & 5) and they are mega excited as they had such a great time last year. Up until today I was a bit worried. The rain can spoil any event and there is nothing we can do about the rain. So it is with a happy heart that I have seen the forecast for the week-end. Sun, Sun, Sun………..

“Summertime and the living is easy…….” (Summertime by George Gershwin)

If you haven’t got tickets then get them quick as its almost sold out. Then on Sunday (22nd July) we will travel from the Deer Shed (Nr Thirsk) up the A19 to Stockton where The Kids Are Solid Gold are putting on their first mini festival. called “A Place in the Sun” it features a number of the bands who are performing at the Deer Shed in the refined surroundings of the Sun Inn. You may remember this venue from Stockton Calling. It’s a tight squeeze but a great atmosphere. Here are the bands and the stage times……

Treetop Flyers 9.30pm
Washington Irving 8.30pm
Pale Seas 7.30pm
Buffalo Skinners 6.30pm
This Little Bird 5.30pm
Elaine Palmer 4.30pm
Doors 4pm

Again only a handful of tickets are left. Get yours quick. Don’t risk turning up at either festival without them as you may well be disappointed.
