Harrogate’s Royal Hall Brings You…ian Hunter, eddi Reader And Paul Carrack
LIVE MUSIC AT THE ROYAL HALL, WITH PERFORMANCES FROM BRIT LUMINARIES IAN HUNTER, EDDI READER AND PAUL CARRACK
The summer of celebration may be over, but there’s still plenty of time to enjoy yourself before Christmas peeks over the horizon. Offering sublime acoustics and a stunning venue, our Royal Hall autumn line-up is a must for anyone who remembers the 1970s and 80s – or simply appreciates knock-out tunes from accomplished musicians.
It’s an incredible four decades since Mott The Hoople, one of glam rock’s seminal bands, began its assault on the British music scene. Head honcho and consummate frontman Ian Hunter was one of the era’s most articulate songwriters and a compelling performer – qualities that have only ripened during Hunter’s solo career.
Hunter, who performs at the Royal Hall on Thursday 25 October, has gone from strength to strength, with September release When I’m President marking his twentieth album of original songs. Wry, socially conscious, impassioned and as rock’n’roll as he ever was, Hunter’s one-of-a-kind voice is backed by his longstanding all-star combo, the Rant Band.
Three Brit Awards, chart-topping albums and singles and an MBE decorate Scottish singer-songwriter Eddi Reader’s mantelpiece. One of British music’s most thrilling and affecting performers, Reader first came to the record-buying public’s attention in the 1980s with Fairground Attraction, who had a huge hit with Perfect. Reader, who plays the Royal Hall on Tuesday 6 November, has since established herself as a solo performer and one of Scotland’s national treasures with nine LPs in her solo back catalogue.
In 2003, Reader released Eddi Reader Sings The Songs Of Robert Burns, which, doing exactly what it said on the cover, went on to be a huge success and was given a re-release with extra material in 2009 for Burns’s 250th birthday. The magic of Eddi singing Rabbie perfectly showcases Reader’s melting vocals, brimming with emotion.
Singer-songwriter and former member of illustrious Brit bands Ace, Squeeze, Roxy Music and Mike + TheMechanics, Paul Carrack is aSheffield – and music – legend. For his performance at the Royal Hall on Wednesday 28 November, Carrack will be playing tracks from his latest album of blue-eyed soul, Good Feeling (released Monday 24 September), alongside a selection of feel-good classics.
Carrack has had a solo career alongside his band and session work for as long as he’s been a musician, but he put down firm solo roots when he set up his own label, Carrack UK, in 2000. Current single, When My Little Girl Is Smiling, a cover of The Drifters’ popular 1962 hit, is enjoying plenty of airtime on Radio 2. Mellow and generally lovely, it’s classic Carrack.
Tickets for these ace nights out are available now and can be booked securely online at www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk or through the Harrogate Box Office on 01423 502 116.
