Forget Glastonbury This Is Where It’s At………
DEER SHED FESTIVAL 5 IS ALMOST UPON US………
FRIDAY 25th JULY TO SUNDAY 27th JULY 2014
Baldersby Park, Topcliffe, North Yorkshire
FULL LINE-UP AND TICKET DETAILS
The Time Travel themed Deer Shed Festival 5 will be with us in just over a month. With our time traveller’s party planned for 11pm on the first night, things are sure to start with a bang. If you haven’t checked out the invite yet, hurry along to http:http://www.timetravelparty.com/
and leave a memory to encourage the travellers to come and join us for the party of the centuries.
This year’s music line-up features a very special headline performance from Johnny Marr alongside fellow top of the bill performers British Sea Power and Stornoway whilst a host of familiar names and hotly tipped newcomers complete the line-up. So whether you want to be early to see Wolf Alice, Toy or Pins, all the subject of feverish praise and recipients of ‘band most likely to’ epithets, catch Welsh Music Album of the Year artist Georgia Ruth, hear tracks from Slow Club’s new 6 Music approved album or see legends like Miles Hunt and Steve Mason, Deer Shed 5 is the place to be.
Deer Shed Festival remains the only UK festival to host PG rated comedy. With names like Boothby Graffoe, Ian Tonkinson and Rob Rouse playing special sets suitable for all family members, the comedy at Deer Shed is one of the many things that make our festival unique.
This year sees a new addition to our arenas with literature making its debut. Amongst a strong bill we have the joy of Bob Stanley, member of St Etienne, noted music writer and all round pop music enthusiast discussing his much praised ‘Yeah, Yeah, Yeah – The Story of Modern Pop’ and hosting a pop quiz for us all to test our knowledge. Keeping in the music tradition Dave Simpson revisits his ‘The Fallen’, discussing being in Mark E Smith’s The Fall with a clutch of ex members. and Matt Webster and Gary Cavanagh keep it local talking through the Bradford music scene. Localism gets another look in with lifelong Leeds United fan Heidi Heigh talking about the ups and downs of being a woman on the terraces.
Deer Shed 5 will be chock full of stuff for the kids. Workshops, discos, demonstrations, building, making, programming, stargazing, theatre and all manner of surprises will open eyes and minds over the three days meaning Deer Shed 5 will be a festival for all the family to enjoy. Manchester’s Robogals return to fly the flag for women in science, we have not just a planetarium but also a cosmodrome on site and Dr Marty Jopson will be making science fun for all ages. In keeping with the Time Travel theme the kids can make their own castle or princess and knight costume or upgrade their favourite teddy bear to add on futuristic abilities.
Sunday is cinema day and the Time Travel theme has influenced our choice of films. ‘Mr. Peabody & Sherman’ will travel through time learning history lessons as they go, Marty McFly goes ‘Back To The Future’ in that car and a previous Doctor battles his greatest enemy in ‘Daleks Invasion Earth’. A very special bit of time travel will come to Deer Shed when pianist extraordinaire Darius Battiwalla transports us back to the days of silent cinema accompanying horror classic ‘The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari’.
To celebrate our theme for this year, as well as all that above more Time Travel related happenings are planned across the site. To find out more about that you will need to be with us in Topcliffe from Friday 25th July.
