Deer Shed Festival Preview: Only A Week To Go…….
Next week-end Friday 24 July to Sunday 26 July 2015 will be Deer Shed Festival 6. Here is a final preview but don’t get too excited because if you haven’t already bought tickets then you’re not going as it’s been sold out for weeks.
What can we expect from this family festival’s first sold out event?
It would be fair to say that this year’s Deer Shed visitors can expect more music, more performances, more workshops, more vendors, more retailers, more science and more, well … just “more” than ever before. This is certainly the biggest and most ambitious Deer Shed Festival yet, and the festival’s music line-up reflects that with John Grant, Billy Bragg, and The Unthanks taking the headline spots.
As well as the headliners, the Deer Shed 6 line-up contains the likes of Scottish duo Honeyblood; Irish legends Villagers and Damien Dempsey; Liverpool’s Dan Croll; 4 post-punk señoritas Hinds; and 6 Music favourite Rozi Plain. There’s something for everyone and every music taste at this festival; whether you fancy sipping cider in the sun listening to the beautiful tones of Lisa O’Neill, or fancy tipping lager everywhere as you get swept along with the riotous noise of Menace Beach.
Regular Deer Shed goers will find less traditional stand-up than in previous years. Instead, the festival is presenting some of the country’s best-loved comedy troops including the critically acclaimed Funz and Gamez, Pappy’s, Slightly Fat Features, and Racing Minds. On top of that there will be performances from the incomparable, beatboxer Shlomo; junk percussion extraordinaires Bang On!; and the UK’s leading paper plane expert, Andy Chipling.
But as any avid festival-goer will know, performers and music are only half the story and the Deer Shed Festival has teamed up with the likes of The Met Office, Opera North, Central School of Speech and Drama, and Phoenix Dance Theatre to create some incredible workshops and activities which will suit people of all ages. From baby yoga, through the U5s tent and the workshops for 5-10 year olds, to the 11+ workshops run by Leeds College of Art, children of all ages will be delighted by the amount of activities on offer and that’s before we get started on the always-popular science tent!
And that’s not all! No music festival would be complete without jaw-dropping, selfie-inducing site art and this year, Baldersby Park is going to be packed with amazing additions. There will be balloon-based art similar to that seen at the Tate St Ives, as well as impressive hot air balloon demonstrations, and many, many more secret surprises that festival goers can look forward to over the weekend.
With all these new additions, it’s easy to see why the Deer Shed Festival have added an additional Sunday Night camping option. This will allow people to see out the festival weekend in style with a DJ set from the legendary Andy Kershaw. Is there any better way to finish off a weekend than listening to the best music the world has to offer whilst sipping on your favourite beverage? We don’t think so.
What They Said About Deer Shed Festival:
“Because there’s something about the atmosphere, the site and the families, which remains unmatched anywhere in festivaldom. And I’m willing to wager that for 99% of the audience at Deer Shed, that’s what keeps them coming back year after year. Here’s to Deer Shed’s 6th birthday.” There Goes The Fear (from 2014)
“Deer Shed is jam packed with quality. The organisers have clearly given much thought to what all members of the family will want within a festival and have gone a considerable way to delivering that.” EFESTIVALS
