Deer Shed 2016

First announcement from our friends at the Deer Shed Festival…….

Making movies at Deer Shed Festival 7.

Building on the success of this year’s sell out festival the Deer Shed team have just announced their theme for 2016. So grab some popcorn and a comfy seat as we dim the lights and transport you to Deer Shed Festival 7 at the Movies!

Next year’s weekend will be a celebration of cinema and filmmaking and what better way to celebrate filmmaking than to actually make a film! Festival director Oliver Jones is pretty excited.

“We’re going to make a movie! It feels like we’ve been planning it forever and we have some fantastic partners to help us. It’s very exciting and just a little bit scary!”

Entitled Monsters VS. Machines the great thing about the film is that everyone will be able to get involved in making it, whether it’s taking a starring role, being an extra or finishing off the set – the Deer Shed website has details on how to join the crew.

As well as this ambitious production Deer Shed will also be laying on loads more activities for the film buffs in their audience – exploring everything from story-telling to running acting workshops, learning to do accents, composing film scores and everything in-between. Oliver’s youngest daughter insists that we let it all go with some sing-a-long-a-Frozen too. Sorry about that.

So Deer Shed Festival 7 promises to be a delight for every movie fan. And let’s not forget all the music, arts, science, comedy, cabaret, spoken word, theatre, literature, workshops, sports and swing ball that make the festival so special.

Join us in July as we waltz down the red carpet past the paparazzi, blinded by the camera flashes.

DEER SHED FESTIVAL FACTS

Our history

This is the seventh Deer Shed Festival. The team behind it have been in place from the start and families are at the heart of the preparations, activities and services on site. In the last seven years we have steadily grown our attendance to 10000 with 46% under 16. We are weary of getting too big. Those seven years have seen a host of amazing bands play including John Grant, Johnny Marr, Billy Bragg, Edwyn Collins, Wolf Alice, I Am Kloot, Saint Etienne, The Wedding Present, House Of Love and Field Music.

What They Said About Deer Shed Festival:

“The best yet in Deer Shed’s burgeoning reputation in what is becoming the north’s answer to the Latitude Festival” Hartlepool Mail from 2015

“Set in beautiful rolling countryside outside the North Yorkshire market town of Thirsk, Deer Shed has quickly established itself as the jewel in the north of England’s summer festival crown. It is warm, welcoming and really rather wonderful.” God Is In The TV from 2015

“Because there’s something about the atmosphere, the site and the families, which remains unmatched anywhere in festival-dom. And I’m willing to wager that for 99% of the audience at Deer Shed, that’s what keeps them coming back year after year. Here’s to Deer Shed’s 6th birthday.” There Goes The Fear (from 2014)
“Deer Shed is jam packed with quality. The organisers have clearly given much thought to what all members of the family will want within a festival and have gone a considerable way to delivering that.” EFESTIVALS
