Apples At The Empire In Middlesbrough

APPLES by Richard Milward is to be performed live in The Empire in Middlesbrough from June the 2nd to the 4th. If you haven’t read the book then go along and see this production. If you have read the book you’ve probably already bought your tickets.

Richard Milward was born in Middlesbrough in 1984. Apples is his first novel, written in 2007, and it looks at the lives of Adam and Eve. No, not those two from the garden of Eden but two scallywags from the council estates of Middlesbrough. Drugs, fights, sex and lung cancer make this Boros answer to Trainspotting. Like Irvine Welsh’s naughty little brother Richard paints a picture of the lives of his colourful and chaotic characters. Part of the novel is actually set in The Empire so it is very fitting that the debut showing of this production should be in that very theatre.

If you like Look back in anger, Irvine Welsh, Catcher in the Rye, Sex, drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll then this is for you. If you don’t like any of those things then you should probably give it a miss!! To find out more go to www.applestheplay.co.uk

Tickets cost £10 (Concessions £8) and are available from  http://www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/what-s-on/what-s-on-arts-and-entertainment/ or 01642 729729.
