Whitley Bay Film Festival 2010 – You’re Gonna Need A Bigger Marquee!

A unique opportunity to see Steven Spielberg’s classic, 1975 sharky thriller “Jaws” screened this summer on the beach at Whitley Bay, with the sea as a backdrop.

The Whitley Bay Film Festival 2010 is planning the outdoor screening, as well as an exhibition of memorabilia from the movie, as part of a 7 day celebration of film and film-making, running from the 21st to the 27th of August.

The Northern Line will be proudly supporting this event, in terms of advertising, press updates, and reviews over the coming weeks.

Most of the finer detail on the festival can be found either on their website or the ubiquitous Facebook page. However their current press release informs us that apart from the killer screening of Jaws on the beach, (no pun intended) a lot of the week long festivities will take place at the Trojan Rooms as well as a variety of indoor and outdoor venues across the town.

There will be screening of footage from the local audiovisual archive, cutting edge feature films, regional shorts and a packed day and evening programme of events for all ages.

Would-be Spielbergs can even attend film-making workshops, offering expert advice and even the possibility of screening some of your own work during the festival.

The Whitley Bay Film Festival 2010 is designed and delivered by Primate Productions and part funded by Northern Film & Media and North Tyneside Council.

Tickets are available from the end of July. For more information about the festival and ways to get involved, please contact [email protected]

  1. Many thanks for the post! We have today received our archive footage of the bay on DVD – some great bits and we will be screening them at the Trojan Room and Age Concern in Whitley Bay – see the website for more details.
