Forest Fire At The Westgarth, Middlesbrough 9/9/10

“She crossed herself, as she put on her things. She has promised once before not to live like this. If she don’t calm down she will burn herself out. Like a forest fire. Well doesn’t that make you smile?” (Forest Fire, Lloyd Cole & the Commotions. 1984)

FOREST FIRE

I don’t know if this is why they’re called what they are but any connection with Lloyd Cole & the Commotions is good enough for me. Rattlesnakes is one of the best albums ever. And on Thursday night (9th September) the band with the Forest Fire moniker will be strutting their stuff at the fabulous Westgarth Social Club in sunny (well it is today) Middlesbrough. They hail from Brooklyn in America and will be ably supported by Bomb Opera and Inspector Tapehead.  The gig is the next in line from those fabulous folk at The Kids are Solid Gold. They have a huge array of talent on offer from now until Christmas. See the full list below but special attention must go to Woodenbox with a Fistful of Fivers (with Cattle & Cane in support) surely one of the gigs of the year and LAU who make their Middlesbrough debut and are well worth seeing.

“ If we get caught in this wind then we could burn the ocean. If we get caught in this scene we’re gonna be undone. It’s just a simple metaphor, It’s for a burning love. Don’t it make you smile like a forest fire.”

As well as promoting this gig to you all it is also an appeal for new contributors. Due to a hernia operation I will not be able to make this gig. (I know this will not be a good enough excuse for the “esteemed” Phil Carey but it is a genuine reason!) Also I am sick of reading my own reviews (aren’t we all, I hear you cry!!!) So I want more people to contribute to the site. It can be a gig, a play, a pub, a book, a restaurant or a park. In fact anything that is in or happens in the North of The British Isles is ripe for reviewing. We cannot offer money or fame but we can promise free entry to gigs, sometimes free stuff from bands and definitely some of our super trendy t-shirts to those who put pen to paper or keyboard to cyberspace. Find something to review, get in touch and see your name up in lights. It really is that easy. I look forward to hearing from you. [email protected]

We are particularly interested in people covering the various stages at the upcoming Rock Your Mind Festival on the 10/10/10.
