Headwater And Emily Portman In The Dock: The Courthouse, Thirsk, North Yorkshire.

Location

“The Old Courthouse welcomes back quality folk”…..

With the summer definitely dispensed with and the hangover left from the festival season recovered from, it’s time to get back to those cosy, intimate gigs of the autumn and there’s none more cosy and intimate than the In The Dock events at The Old Courthouse in Thirsk.

Reeling from the success of their Deer Shed Festival in July, the In The Dockers haven’t forgotten their roots and are serving up another gorgeous helping of quality folk and acoustic music this autumn. The first arrives on Friday 15 October in the guise of Canadian group, Headwater, with support act Henry Bird.

Describing themselves as ‘freewheeling, fierce, sentimental and sexy’, Headwater has earned its reputation as one of the finest acoustic roots groups, mostly through sheer hard work and determination. Since forming in 2001 the quartet have crissed crossed Canada several times performing, now they’re at a stage where they’re criss crossing the Atlantic they’re so much in demand.

The band have two albums under their belt, both offering driving rhythms, adventurous steel guitar and mandolin solos, beautiful three-part vocal harmonies and hooks you’ll be humming all the way home.

Headwater is supported by Henry Bird, a local singer songwriter from Ampleforth. At just nineteen, Henry is already carving out a name for himself as a talented folk/soul singer and has been busy honing his talents by performing with the likes of In The Dock regulars, The Groanbox Boys.

If you can’t make this night, then be sure to block out the evening of 20th November when Emily Portman comes to The Old Courthouse. She sings, writes songs and plays the concertina. She’s performed at The Southbank Centre and The Sage and has a BBC Folk Award Nomination, but will be dropping in to dazzle the live music fans of Thirsk.

To see these artists in the intimate, café style venue The Old Courthouse offers, buy tickets from http://www.inthedock.net/, call 01845 595980 or pick them up from White Rose Books, Thirsk. Tickets £12 and doors 7.30pm.
