Saint Saviour – Debut Single – Woman Scorned

Location

I got sent this, debut single, by Saint Saviour… played it and then nearly fell off my chair! How can this be a debut? It’s incredible… surely no-one could keep that voice locked up until now?… but after a bit of digging I breathed a low sigh of… “I thought so!”… in a knowing sage-like manner!

Saint Saviour, aka Becky Jones, was the former front woman of recently defunct electro Band the RGB’s and sometime singer and co-writer with the mighty Groove Armada, on the Black Light album, and now she is currently releasing her beautifully engineered and crafted debut solo single the wonderful “Woman Scorned.”

London based, (bah!) but originally from Teesside, Saint Saviour is a singer songwriter of unfathomable musical talent.

Obviously with her track record, debut is a weird term to use for a singer who already has Glastonbury, Creamfields and Bestival under her belt.

“Woman Scorned” is a blinding solo opener though, very, very strong and a real showcase for that incredibly versatile voice. To tell you the truth, the opening reminds me of “Girl, you’ll be a woman soon”, the fast Pulp Fiction, Urge Overkill version, (not the slightly creepy Neil Diamond version.)

She also does an unbelievable, slowed down version of “Love Will Tear us apart”, which I found on her myspace site, (11,000 plays by the way!)… with just a piano accompaniment. Jesus, as if that song wasn’t soaked in enough pain. What can I say… stunning stuff!

  1. As a mega fan of Saint Saviour I agree with every word, YES a fantastic distinctive voice, a gorgeous lady, and I do believe a “Diamond” within the fragile glass effect of the music industry.
