Galtres Festival Update- Festival Opportunity For Talented Youngsters
Talented young performers are being oofered their first big break to perform in front of thousands of spectators at this year’s Galtres Festival.
Organisers of the Crayke festival said the competition was very different to television talent shows as they were looking for original compositions and genuine talent “rather than commercial potential”.
Musicians or dancers, aged from nine to 19, at a school or a college in Yorkshire are encouraged to enter the G-FACTOR competition at the 5,000-capacity festival on Saturday, August 27, with the winner taking to the main stage the next day.
James Houston, festival director, said: “We have been quite excited through the festival to come across some extremely talented young people who can do some pretty amazing stuff. We wanted to give them an opportunity to let them show off what they can do.
“The winner will have the experience of performing through a top notch PA system to get a taste of what it’s like to be a star performer.”
A panel of experienced music and dance industry specialists will judge the entrants, judging them on performance and composition.
The panel will include Rebecca Robbins, also known as Berri, who won a record deal in 1994 and had chart success with tracks including dance anthem The Sunshine After The Rain. She will be joined by Christian Topman, artistic director of the ArtsBarge Project, Peter Morris, a trustee of Galtres Festival and member of York Band Jonny & the Rizzlas, Paul Webster, from York Breakdance, and Heather Findlay former singer from York band Mostly Autumn.
Depending on the number of entrants, qualifying heats for G-FACTOR may be held on the afternoon of August 26.
Qualifying entrants will be given a free ticket to the festival on August 27 and the winner will also get free entry the following day.
Each entrant can be a single person or a group of up to ten people and should prepare two performances, each of two to four minutes long.
Of these, one of them must be an original composition devised especially for the festival and not performed anywhere else before.
