Shaun Ryder is probably more of a household name now than he was back in the heady days of Madchester.
After his appearance on I’m a Celebrity Get me out of here his career has had a major upturn.
Now resplendent with new teeth and a new band he is back out on the road again doing what he does best, entertaining the masses.
I caught him live only a few months ago as the guest act with The Charlatans (at the time he let us all know he wasn’t the support!!) at Manchester Apollo. The show could have been a disaster but I’ll tell you something now,he was superb. He played some new songs which were typical Mondays but he also dipped into songs spanning his whole career including songs from one of my favourite groups BLACK GRAPE.

He also has a new Autobiography out which he has said was a struggle at times to write mainly because he couldnt remember anything!!!

The former hellraiser also had to look through newspaper clippings in the library to fill the gaping holes in his memory.

Shaun, who spent more than 10 years fighting addictions to heroin and crack cocaine, told the Daily Star: “The memories stop in 1990 and restart in 2006. Writing it did take a lot of time but we got it all right in the end. “Of course I never wrote a diary on the road so I had to look at old copies of the NME and newspapers and sort out what was what.”
