BLANK MAPS – BETWEEN YOU & ME

Here at The Northern Line we are being increasingly bombarded by music from bands from the North-East of England. This is not a complaint as most of the music is wonderful. Its just a question where the heck have all these bands come from? Today another new band to my ears; Blank Maps. Like Paddy McAloon fronting Sigur Ros!!! My words not theirs. Here’s theirs……….

Newcastle quartet Blank Maps are delighted to announce the release of brand new single ‘Between You & Me’ on February 20. The single will be backed by ‘10 Years’ and will be available as a free download from:

The band’s previous work has garnered airplay on Amazing Radio and 6Music, and ‘Running in Slow Motion’ from their debut release EP1 was featured on Tom Robinson’s podcast. Their last single, ‘Always in the Middle, Never in Between’, released last November, earned an impressive array of praise across a range of blogs, as well as being played on Amazing Radio and BBC Newcastle.

‘Between You & Me’ is perhaps an even more impressive piece of work, blending the heady, spacious drama of the sadly-departed Grammatics with the chilly minimalism of The XX and the precise melodics of Foals. The combination of Thom Piddock’s melancholic vocal with the moody, funereal chime of the guitar creates a claustrophic atmosphere, but there’s also something disarmingly catchy about ‘Between You & Me’ which makes it a thoroughly intriguing listen.

Blank Maps formed in 2010 in Newcastle, and have spent the last year or so recording and playing gigs around the North of England. They will be following up the release of ‘Between You & Me’ with another single release late in the Spring, before releasing an EP in the summer.

Blank Maps play at Newcastle Cluny 2 on Friday March 9th, supporting Styles Make Fights. More UK dates will be announced soon.
