A GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR – Northern Broadsides and Harrogate Theatre

Adapted by Deborah McAndrew from the original play by Nikolai Gogol, directed and composed by Conrad Nelson, this hysterically funny tale of misdeeds and misadventure has much and brass aplenty.

After the critical success of Accidental Death of an Anarchist, Northern Broadsides’ associate director Conrad Nelson and playwright Deborah McAndrew once again team up to bring their unique brand of Northern inventiveness and humour to the stage with A Government Inspector, a Yorkshire take on Gogol’s fantastical satire.

SECONDS OUT – Reform Theatre and Harrogate Theatre

Written by Nick Lane and directed by Keith Hukin, this is a tale of friendship, boxing and why it’s best not to annoy the local nutcase. Partly inspired by true events, Sheffield’s Reform Theatre present the story of Tom, who indulges in a daft dalliance with the wife of local nutter Mad Mark Flynn, which leads to him enlisting the help of Foster, a former boxer with a left hook to die for (or from), and a bag full of secrets.

Date: Tuesday 18 – Saturday 29 September

Time: 7.45pm

Location: Harrogate Studio Theatre

Tickets: £12

Box Office: 01423 502 116

Wednesday 26 to Saturday 29 September

THE LIGHTHOUSE ON SHIVERING SANDS – North Country Theatre and Harrogate Theatre

The Lighthouse On Shivering Sands is adapted from a short story by JS Fletcher, an ex-Yorkshire Post journalist from Halifax, who wrote 230 books and was a crime writer to rival Agatha Christie, and directed by Yorkshireman Nobby Dimon, who has previously reinvented West End hit The 39 Steps (which began life here in our Studio Theatre).

Strange tales were told of Shivering Sands – of lighthouse keepers gone mad, mermaids and sea monsters, disappearances and hauntings. None of that scared Mordechai Chiddock, but had he known that Jezreel Cornish was one of the keepers, he’d never have set foot on the cursed rock. Expect sun, sea, sand and strangled-laughter in this sea-faring horror.
