Washington Irving @ The Sun Inn, Stockton Saturday 22nd September 2012 And The Kids Are Solid Gold’s Autumn Spectacular….

“My favourite new band” (Peter Martin talking to anyone who will listen)

Washington Irving are fantastic. You should know this from the amount of times I have been going on and on about them. I gave them band of the year for 2011 in our end of year review. I have seen them loads of times and never get bored. I love them so much that I drove through to Stockton on Saturday night by myself. After having been at the Leeds game all day. To watch them as support act to The Men They Couldn’t Hang. I left after their set and came home. No disrespect to TMTCH but I wasn’t really bothered about going out but could not miss “The Sound of Young Scotland” playing so close to my home. Should I tell you they were wonderful. Should I tell you that they are the nicest people on earth? Are you still buying tickets to see Coldplay? or Keane? or those other insipid non-entities who sang that one song that everybody covers on X-Factor? Get off your sofa, stop buying what you’re told to buy and listen to something that you didn’t hear Chris Moyles play! (Oh, they’ve sacked him? Never! What for? being a talentless, ears of cloth, self-centered egotistical twat!!! Never!!!)

Why has it taken me two weeks to review the greatest band on earth? Too busy? Too lazy? Too excited about all the great things coming up in the soon coming months? Probably all 3. The Kids Are Solid Gold put on Washington Irving and I am forever grateful for them introducing them to me. They have some great shows coming up starting with Palma Violets this week. But before I tell you all about the wealth of talent coming your way a quick word on our friends from the very far North of Scotland. Washington Irving have a debut album ready to come out to the world. They are amazing live. They drink Whisky. They have their photos taken with sad stalkers. They are going to be famous. Well, in my house anyway. Go seek them out. Go buy their album. Stop being pleased with mediocre rubbish. Stop being impressed with bands who give you a flashing wrist band in exchange for £50 of your hard earned pounds. Stop defending the indefensible. Prick up your ears and listen. The future is upon us………

The Kids Are solid Gold have brought us some great bands over the past 5 years and their Autumn collection is one of the best yet. Palma Violets kick it all of on Wednesday in Newcastle and Thursday in Middlesbrough. They are on the cover of this week’s NME!!! (Ok, Ok, I know NME is more like Smash Hits these days but it’s still something for a band on their cover to be playing gigs this small. Get there if you can. Regret it at your leisure) Full list of gigs here;
